In an effort to combat childhood obesity, the government has decided to ban junk food advertisements before 9pm on TV and eliminate them entirely from online platforms. Ads for high-fat, high-salt, and high-sugar products will be restricted to post-watershed slots on television. Online, all paid-for junk food ads will be prohibited. Exemptions are made for baby formula, medicinal drinks, and approved meal replacements.

JUNK food ads will be banned from TV before 9pm and axed entirely online in a bid to tackle childhood obesity .

“This is the first step to deliver a major shift in the focus of healthcare from sickness to prevention — and towards meeting our government’s ambition to give every child a healthy start.” The legislation includes exemptions for baby formula, medicinal drinks and approved meal replacements.
