A shocking investigation revealed that popular UK restaurant chains, including Bella Italia , Prezzo , and TGI Fridays, are serving microwave meals and dishes packed with ultra-processed junk. The Soil Association 's research found these restaurants rarely prepare food using fresh ingredients on-site. Children's menus were particularly scrutinized and were found to be misleading or even ripping off parents.
The study highlighted an abundance of unhealthy options, sugary desserts, additives, and low-welfare meat. Franco Manca ranked lowest in serving vegetables to kids, while KFC was found to be importing meat from halfway across the world. However, Wahaca and Carluccio’s were noted for making family favourites from minimally processed ingredients.
