JOHN BERCOW, the Commons speaker, should not have condemned Boris Johnson’s decision to prorogue Parliament, says former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith.
’s decision to suspend Parliament a “constitutional outrage”, something Ian Duncan Smith says is a departure from his role as Speaker of the House. He said: “Convention, a vital part of our unwritten constitution, has it that the Speaker does not express their own opinions on constitutional issues but leaves that for the House of Commons to decide.”On Wednesday, the Queen approved Mr Johnson’s request for Parliament to be suspended for almost five weeks from September 10 to October 14.
