British rap duo Krept & Konan are set to launch a groundbreaking inclusive supermarket called Saveways in Croydon in February. The 15,000 sq. ft. store, which cost over £1 million to establish, aims to cater specifically to the needs of Black, Asian, and ethnic communities. Saveways will offer a diverse range of products, including world foods, premium halal produce, ethnic hair and beauty products, and even an onsite multi-faith prayer room .
This unique feature sets Saveways apart from most UK supermarkets, highlighting the duo's commitment to creating a space that truly embraces diversity and inclusivity. The supermarket will create over 30 job opportunities in the area and provide modern shopping solutions like click & collect and online ordering. Customers can also expect a fresh and frozen exotic fish selection, fresh halal meat and poultry counter, fresh bakery, fresh fruit and vegetables, and a wide array of tinned, ambient, chilled, and frozen foods from around the world. Household essentials and cosmetics will also be available.Krept & Konan, in partnership with entrepreneur Kaysor Ali (founder of Steakout and Smacks Hamburgers), believe Saveways will fill a gap in the Croydon and Sutton area by offering a variety of products, ample parking, and fair pricing. The duo envisions Saveways as more than just a supermarket, aiming to create a hub for community engagement. They plan to host pop-up events, album launch parties, and even potentially stage a performance themselves one day. Saveways will also serve as a platform for content creation, encouraging artists and other individuals from diverse backgrounds to showcase their work.
