Grades for the Nets and Mavericks trade are out from talkhoops. The Mavs’ ceiling is higher, but the floor is now lava. The Nets grade? It depends on how Kevin Durant feels about the deal...
. It was a surprising move that didn’t seem like enough of a return at the time , but it ended up being a pretty good deal. This is an even bolder swing for the Mavs — to decide, after all of the distractions and chaos we watched Irving go through/cause in Brooklyn, that it was time to bring him into the mix.bolted for New York this summer.
To make this work, they’ll have to find some middle ground, and that’s mostly on Jason Kidd to figure out. There’s also a prior relationship between Mavs lead executive Nico Harrison, formerly of Nike, and Irving, also formerly of Nike.
The Nets and Irving failed to find a trade partner for him roughly eight months ago. Now that they have, did they receive enough for a player as talented as Irving but also as tainted as his reputation has become? The key to all of this deal comes down to Durant, though. He wants to hoop. He wants to be healthy and continue to play his game. And he has historic, all-time ability. But he came to Brooklyn with Irving, and now the Nets have to manage how he takes this. He could be annoyed with Irving wanting out when things were just going well enough. He could be relieved the distraction — even if it is his good friend — is gone.
