EXCLUSIVE: The new Fair Repayment Rate will cap the amount that is repaid from benefit payments each month for short-term loans and debts at 15 per cent instead of 25 per cent.
An estimated 110,000 households in Scotland will be hundreds of pounds better off due to reforms to Universal Credit , the UK Government has said.
The Government has said the change will see some families on average £420 a year better off. Scotland Secretary Ian Murray said this "is a key step ahead of our work to bring down child poverty". “Alongside the increase to the minimum wage and delivering the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights for a generation, we will ensure benefits rise in line with the cost of living and change Universal Credit so loan repayments are capped – a move that would help up to 110,000 households by on average £420 a year.
