The cap, which applies to more than 130 bus operators outside of London, will now be extended until December 2024
The £2 bus fare has officially been extended, which means there are plenty of places here in the Lake District just waiting to be explored.The Department for Transport made the announcement in a document outlining plans for public transport in the north after Rishi Sunak confirmed his decision to axe the Northern leg of HS2. Instead, a series of announcements promising "hundreds of new transport projects in the North and the Midlands, across the country" were made.
Visit the Lake District posted the news on social media and encouraged people to get out and about across the county. The said: "A large number of services are eligible, including many run by Stagecoach - taking you to destinations like Windermere, Grasmere, Kirkby Lonsdale, Hawkshead, Ulverston, Ullswater, Carlisle, Keswick, Cockermouth and so many more.
"Simply buy your ticket online or on board, with no discount code needed. £2 bus fares are now available until December 2024, so there's plenty of time to explore the Lakes for less. Part of the government's Help for Households campaign."
