Sizergh Castle is a stately home with garden and estate at Helsington
The days are getting shorter and it's definitely getting colder, that means only one thing it's time to bust out the hats and scarves and go walking in the Lake District. The traditional agricultural estate that surrounds Sizergh Castle offers dramatic views of the Lakeland Fells, the Pennines and Morecambe Bay, as well as a fantastic array of animals, birds, butterflies and wildflowers that vary with the seasons.
The building itself has all the best of the traditional features of the area. The Strickland Arms is easily reached from all directions. Those travelling from afar may take the M6 motorway to Junction 36, where they should follow the signs towards the South Lakes. After following the A590 for around 5 miles, take a left turn signposted towards Barrow and the Lake District Peninsulas.
Follow this road for a matter of just 200 yards and then take a right towards Sizergh Castle, and the Strickland Arms is found a matter of half a mile further along. The website explains: "We have built quite a reputation for our food - often remarked upon as 'costing less than expected for such splendid dining' - we present a menu with something for everyone, clearly using much local produce and being individually prepared to order.
"Our helpful and friendly staff deliver an atmosphere which is homely and welcoming to visitors and locals alike. Dogs and children are very welcome."
