Lancashire Constabulary has confirmed that a 42-year-old man from London has been fined for the offence, which can carry up to a £500 penalty
Rishi Sunak has been fined by Lancashire Constabulary after he failed wear a seatbelt as drove through the county during a Levelling Up visit.
The Prime Minister had filmed a social media video in the back of a moving car .In the clip, the PM seemed to not be protected by a seatbelt as he promoted his funding in the clip filmed for Instagram on Thursday . He visited Lancashire to discuss the Government’s new announcement for Levelling Up funding in the country.
Downing Street previously said the Prime Minister, 42, had made a “brief error of judgment” by removing the safety device as he promoted his levelling up funding in an Instagram video when he visited Lancashire on Thursday. “The Prime Minister believes everyone should wear a seatbelt,” the spokesman said. “It was an error of judgment, he removed it for a short period of time to film a clip, which you’ve seen, but he accepts that was a mistake.”
Conservative MP Scott Benton suggested Lancashire Police were wasting their time by “looking into” the PM for failing to wear a seatbelt. He said “politically motivated complaints” about the offence that carries a maximum fine of £500 are “not good use of frontline resources”.
