According to Riggs, at the heart of “The Curious Savage” is how we all see the world and what we decide to make of the world around us.

The play follows the Savage Family matriarch as she is locked away by her stepchildren for wishing to give away the family’s fortune to those in need. Once committed to a psychiatric institution, she begins to change the lives of her new housemates for the better.

“The characters are just so delightful," Riggs said. “It would be really easy for the residents, for example, to just be these people who have been put into this institution just because they’re ‘crazy’ or their ‘off’ or whatever, but they're all here for a reason and they’re all getting something out of it.”

According to Riggs, at the heart of “The Curious Savage” is how people see the world and what they decide to make of the world around them. “’Fools of good heart’ is one of the lines near the end of the play,” explained Riggs. “That’s how we’ll save the world — fools of good heart — compassion and kindness and really seeing each other and that’s what this play asks us to do.”

The Lancaster Playhouse’s production of “The Curious Savage” runs through April 14 in Lancaster.
