Worth a little stop off if you're on the M6
At the base of the majestic Warton Crag limestone cliffs, on the edge of the village is an unassuming barn at the side of the road. But if you take a closer look, you'll discover that the 300-year-old ancient barn has been converted into a quirky, working microbrewery.
It is a direct nod to the barn's heritage, which was originally the foundry for the village school. The intimate pub area is known as The Detention Centre, where house ales, occasional guest beers, cocktails, wine, ciders and lagers are served.It is a traditional inn with an offbeat twist. The walls and ceiling are stuffed with weird and wonderful trinkets and odd collectibles, such as road signs, guitars, a mirrorball, model aeroplanes and industrial-sized pots and pans.
Visitors can also dig into coffee, cake, hot sandwiches, flatbreads, pastries, burgers and more in the dining area, a covered extension out front aptly named The Canteen. Old School Brewery is in a prime location close to Warton Crag, an area of outstanding natural beauty AONB, Silverdale with amazing views of Morecambe Bay and Leighton Moss nature reserve.
