The callers are scammers pretending to have done work for United Utilities
Lancashire residents are being warned over bogus calls demanding payment from criminals posing as United Utilities staff.
The amounts requested do seem relatively small, ranging from £12-12.83, but once the swindlers have access to your card details to take payment, more money can go missing. As United Utilities is the only water company in the North West, it can be difficult to differentiate between a hoax call and a real one.If you believe it's a hoax, hang up the phone. Do not give out or confirm any personal or bank details.
