UK holidaymakers could soon face a new daily charge when visiting the Canary Islands as officials in Lanzarote and Tenerife are reportedly in talks to introduce measures to recoup funds following an influx of tourists.
He told journalists: "It is true that the ecotax is not included in the government program, but it is also true that we are willing to discuss it; the government will always engage in dialogue."Clavijo continued to outline his vision for the tourism sector, stating: "It is a successful model that has generated a lot of employment and wealth, but it is also true that we have to continue improving it.
As the debate heats up, British visitors to these popular destinations are feeling the tension. With anti-tourist graffiti appearing across the islands and protests scheduled for April 20 in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Tenerife, discontent is growing, reports the Daily Star.
