Mayor Dave Bronson’s deficit to challenger Suzanne LaFrance grew with the latest results drop Thursday.

Anchorage election workers say there are still thousands of ballots to be counted from Tuesday's mayoral runoff electionANCHORAGE, Alaska - LaFrance’s lead widening by 219 votes over Bronson, growing from 4,907 votes to 5,126.

Despite her lead expanding in votes, LaFrance’s share of the vote shrunk from 54.11% to 53.61%, due to the number of new ballots counted in the tally. LaFrance currently has 38,068 votes compared to Bronson’s 32,942. The municipality added 11,295 more ballots to the tally, growing the number from 59,715 on Wednesday to 71,010 on Thursday. Nearly 30% of all registered voters in Anchorage have had their ballots counted thus far.Election officials say voting trends have led them to expect higher turnout for this election. Compared to more than 72,000 votes seen during the April 2 general election, election officials expect 80,000 to 90,000 votes by the time all the counting ends on May 29.
