Sky News can reveal a young law student who was arrested four years ago is set to enter the race within the Liberal Party to fill a forthcoming vacant seat in the Parliament of Victoria. Melbourne University student Chris Kounelis was arrested following allegations of recklessly causing injury. The 26-year-old is nominating for pre-selection in the Liberal Party for North Eastern Metropolitan Region. Sitting member Matthew Bach will leave Parliament later this year. Mr Kounelis was interviewed by police in 2020 over an unlawful assault in Parkville in August 2019, but a police spokesperson today confirmed no charges have been laid.
