Residents fear there may be a repeat on Friday night
A Leeds councillor has spoken of the moment he acted as a "human shield" to protect police from thousands of rioters.
Cllr Ali was at the scene late into the night, posting a video describing the violence. In it, he said: "What's happened is an absolute travesty.This morning he described the scene as “mayhem” and said he had to work as a human shield to help protect the police. He said those involved should be “held accountable” and around 1,500 to 2,000 people were thought to be involved. He also said it would be “inappropriate to comment on rumours” that have been circulating.
