Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is desperate not to take away the 'magic' of Elland Road
If there is one person who knows how Leeds United's owners tackle stadium projects, it's Jack Hill. After all, the American helped oversee the $1.2bn development of the San Francisco 49ers' shiny home, the Levi's Stadium, a decade ago. So is Elland Road in safe hands?
Rather than moving away, as the 49ers did, chairman Paraag Marathe is desperate not to take away the 'magic' of Elland Road. Leeds have even enlisted acoustic consultants in a bid to maintain the atmosphere while the club aim to expand the North and West Stands in phases to minimise disruption. "I would use the term even keel. When we would interact with Paraag and go to him, he was always very calm. There were times when you had to go to your ownership group and make difficult decisions on cost, schedule and the function of the stadium, but he is very knowledgeable and very up to date on what it takes to undertake these huge projects. He was a tremendous resource for us."
"People had tried to do it before and you would always see where they would limit the number of transactions they could have to the lower bowl or the highest-paying customers. One great thing about the Levi's Stadium was how every seat in the house - even the guy in the very top row in the corner - had the same level of service as the guy sitting on the 50-yard line."
