Leeds United hired Daniel Farke as manager four months ago and his first competitive match was played three months ago with so much change in so little time since then
Only four months have passed since Daniel Farke was hired as Leeds United manager. It feels like so much has changed, for the better, at all levels of the club since that day.
There are only five, six at a push, members of that August 6 line-up you could now consider to be regular, almost guaranteed, starters under Farke. Illan Meslier underlined why faith had been placed in him after two years under the Premier League pump on Friday night. Crysencio Summerville and Daniel James began on day one with Farke against Cardiff, but haven’t had the smoothest road to this point, as two of the first names on the teamsheet. Injuries have affected both of them, but they have proven to be more reliable and potent than their rivals in forward areas.
Luis Sinisterra has, of course, left the club now. Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper remain influences in the dressing room and squad Farke does not want to lose, but the manager has preferences for others in their positions. With Firpo injured, Hjelde was given the responsibility, but quickly struggled in the opening days of the campaign. From the opportunity of being a starter, Hjelde has now fallen out of matchday squads altogether, sometimes even missing out on the under-21s too.
Nobody should be writing off the 20-year-old. Injury has robbed him of any momentum and while has been missing, the front four has been firing.
