Leeds United fend off La Liga interest in Mateo Joseph while continuing to search for a striker before the transfer deadline.
Leeds United's pursuit of a striker continues as the transfer window nears its close. While Daniel Farke's squad seeks reinforcements, the club has also successfully defended against interest in its own promising talent. According to Beren Cross of The Athletic, Leeds rejected a bid exceeding £10 million for striker Mateo Joseph over the weekend.
Several La Liga clubs have been monitoring Joseph's availability, with Real Betis reportedly expressing interest in the 21-year-old Spain Under-21 international. Leeds swiftly dismissed this approach. Joseph ended a three-and-a-half-month goal drought by scoring in Leeds' dominant 7-0 victory over Cardiff City. This season, he has contributed three goals and three assists in 29 Championship appearances, initially starting as Farke's preferred forward. However, he has since dropped down the pecking order, with Joel Piroe emerging as Leeds' primary attacking threat.Leeds' lack of attacking options has been evident throughout the January transfer window, with Southampton striker Cameron Archer consistently linked to the club. Archer remains a target for Leeds, but the deadline is fast approaching. While fellow Saints striker Adam Armstrong was briefly rumored to be joining Elland Road, Leeds has not seriously pursued this move. Farke has emphasized that his team will not make hasty signings in the final days of the window. Last month, he stated, 'No special meeting for the final days. We are on the same page. We don't make signings out of panic reasons. 'I like to be honest about it. I take the decision if I feel there is a player who can fit into our group. The financial aspect is for others to make, then if all boxes are ticked then we will do something. 'When we are in this position it is easier to track players. If its a loan then to be there not just a few months but for the future. If a player is just looking for game time then it's not that easy. 'You can't guarantee that. There is lots of competition. Some can be reluctant because we have really good players. It's always a bit tricky on loans because they know they are only coming for three months.
