Newly-appointed Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu speaks to LeedsLive during the club's pre-season training camp in Germany

Pre-season training camps are about more than hard yards and rondos on the grass. When Leeds United committed to Germany for nine days, Daniel Farke wanted to see his players building the bonds that would protect one another in the Championship trenches for the next 10 months.

“Hopefully that can make them feel easier because we just want them to work hard and try and perform the best they can in each session.” Ampadu is asked what kind of statement that signing makes on behalf of the club. Does his mate’s return speak volumes for what’s being built at Elland Road? Does it show the faith Rodon has in this dressing room and project?

He might be someone Farke can lean on when it comes to integrating new signings or, in the case of this summer, reintegrating returning loanees like Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober. Ampadu does not see them as special cases. They are treated like everyone else in the squad, if you’re here, then you’re one of us, whatever your past.
