Trick or treating is a Halloween tradition dating back centuries
It's that time of the year again. Darker nights, a nip in the air and all kinds of spooky goings on around us.
Halloween will see plenty of us dressing up, holding parties or maybe watching a scary film. Another tradition is trick or treating. The tradition dates back as far as the 1000 AD when poor people would visit the houses of wealthier families and receive pastries called soul cakes in exchange for a promise to pray for the souls of the homeowners' dead relatives. The practice - known as souling - was later taken up by children, who would go from door to door asking for gifts such as food, money and ale.
It is a tradition that lives to this day. Thousands of youngsters will be out trick or treating on October 31. But what we want to know is whether you welcome them? Do you sit in the dark pretending to be out or do you decorate your entire home and have a huge bucket of treats waiting?
