The centre-back enjoyed his breakthrough season at Parkhead and is looking to make his mark for Ireland.
Liam Scales believes his exposure to Champions League football with Celtic can help cement his standing as an Ireland international.
But Scales is ready to spoil their send off and Ronaldo’s farewell, with the global star primed for this game after sitting out the recent friendlies with Croatia and Finland. Scales said: “I’m not a Manchester United fan but I like Ronaldo and with the career he’s had, I don’t need to say how good he is. Hopefully I get to play against him.
“Hopefully one of the photographers gets a photo of me standing next to him! It’s the challenge to see what he’s like. We have seen it but to feel it by playing against him would be great.” Asked about the best opponent he has faced up to now, Scales said: “There were a few from Holland like Virgil Van Dijk and Antoine Griezmann in the Champions League. That was my first taste of Champions League football with Celtic and it would have been the same for a lot of the players. Hopefully we’ll be a bit more experienced next season.”
