Life in Birkdale in August 1978 was captured in rare photographs
Located just south of Southport and only half an hour away from Lancashire, lies a village that's stood the test of time.
Birkdale is a typical Victorian village that's managed to retain many of its traditional business, even 40 years after the area was captured in rare photographs. Today, there's a fishmonger, greengrocer, butchers and cheese shop amongst an array of independent bars and restaurants. Dubbed a"hidden gem", Birkdale was captured in these images in August 1978 - and you'd still recognise it to this day. Courtesy of our archives, Mirrorpix, the Echo have reported on the photographs showing life in Birkdale on Liverpool Road and Weld Road.Images show businesses such as The Co-Op, Philately & Fine Art and The Cooks Shop, as well as The Midland Bank and others on Weld Parade.
