Raymond Tunnicliffe died peacefully after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in February

Tributes have been paid to a beloved magistrate and choir singer who ‘loved being involved in the Valley’. Raymond Tunnicliffe of Cherry Tree Way, Helmshore, passed away peacefully at home from a brain tumour after being diagnosed in February, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 14, aged 78.

He studied at the University of Manchester and got a job at Manchester Blood Bank. Raymond worked in finance and computer services for the NHS across the north west of England and served on various local committees in the NHS for 45 years. The couple then moved to Cherry Tree Way in Helmshore and have lived there for the rest of his life. They have three children; Darren, Eve and Gareth. Raymond and Liz celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary last year at Haslingden Golf Club.

Raymond was a member of RMVC for more than 10 years, singing with them all over the country. A spokesperson for RMVC said: “Ray was a member of Rossendale Male Voice Choir for many years going back to when Beatrice Wade was the musical director.
