Maureen Nolan has shared a heartfelt tribute to her late sister Linda, who passed away at the age of 65 on Wednesday following a 20-year battle with cancer. While Linda's death was initially attributed to cancer, Maureen clarified that she succumbed to double pneumonia contracted over Christmas and New Year.
Maureen Nolan has spoken out following the death of her sister Linda at the age of 65 on Wednesday. Linda passed away in hospital surrounded by her famous sisters after a 20-year battle with breast cancer, her agent Dermot McNamara confirmed. However, in her tribute, Maureen clarified that Linda didn't succumb to cancer but contracted double pneumonia over the Christmas and New Year period. The infection proved too severe due to Linda's weakened immune system.
Maureen wrote: 'Our beautiful @thelindanolan left us yesterday, so much to say not sure where or if I can start, countless memories, countless laughs, and constant support when you really needed it, I am heartbroken as we all are, just so sad. 'I would just like to say, to all the people out there who felt inspired by Linda, she didn't the big C didn't actually get her. 'She contracted double pneumonia over Christmas and New Year and because of her immune system it was one battle too much. So please keep hopeful and strong if you are suffering, she lasted nearly 20 years with one cancer or another, and so can you.' As part of her heartfelt tribute, Maureen shared a series of photos capturing their bond at various events and family gatherings. Linda's sister and Loose Women panelist Coleen Nolan also released a statement the day prior, expressing her devastation. 'I am utterly devastated by the passing of my sister, Linda. 'Linda was a beacon of love, kindness and strength. Her wit, humour and laughter was infectious, her presence could light up any room. Linda had a heart full of compassion and always knew how to bring comfort and joy to those around her. 'Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched, and while we miss her more than words can express, we take solace in the love and warmth she shared with all of us. Rest in peace, Linda. You will forever be in our hearts. She faced incurable cancer with courage, grace & determination, inspiring millions. 'Surrounded by family, she passed peacefully. A pop icon and beacon of hope, Linda will never be forgotten'. Linda rose to fame alongside her sisters as a member of the girlband The Nolan Sisters, and their 1979 hit 'I'm In The Mood For Dancing' became a timeless classic. Just last week, Linda told The Mirror that she had begun to feel better after falling ill over Christmas with what she thought was a bout of flu. Her sister and Loose Women panelist Coleen Nolan also shared a separate statement on Instagram. In what would be her final column for the publication, Linda wrote: 'The doctors say it's been a bad case of flu. I'd walk a few steps and struggle to catch my breath. 'My legs were even more wobbly than usual and, although I try not to, I thought of how Bernie was at the end. You think, ''Oh my God, is this it?'' 'It was only on Monday I felt well enough to venture out. It feels like a whole new world out there. There's nothing like the sensation of starting to feel better after an illness. 'You've forgotten what it feels like to feel normal (well, I say normal?)
