Researchers at Mass General Brigham have developed a new RNA-based therapy that uses lipid nanoparticles to deliver mRNA and siRNA to target both tumor suppression and tumor growth drivers in prostate cancer.

Mass General Brigham researchers Yang Zhang, PhD, and Jinjun Shi, PhD, from the Center for Nanomedicine and Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, have published a paper in ACS Nanoscience Au titled 'Lipid Nanoparticle Delivery of mRNA and siRNA for Concurrent Restoration of Tumor Suppressor and Inhibition of Tumorigenic Driver in Prostate Cancer .

' Their study investigates a novel RNA-based approach to simultaneously restore tumor suppression and inhibit tumor growth in prostate cancer. Using lipid nanoparticles, they delivered mRNA and siRNA to human prostate cancer cells, successfully restoring the lost PTEN tumor suppressor and silencing the overexpressed androgen receptor (AR), a driver of tumor growth. This combined strategy demonstrated a powerful anti-tumor effect in preclinical models, suggesting potential for developing more effective treatments for prostate cancer and other cancers
