Police confirmed a 74-year-old man had died after being struck by a single-decker bus in the city's Cowgate on Saturday night.
The owner of Edinburgh 's Liquid Rooms has shut down sick social media rumours that he was the victim of a fatal incident in the Cowgate.
Businessman McWilliams took to social media and said: "Good morning everyone, it's 11.45am and yes, I am still alive. My condolences go out to whoever did die in the Grassmarket last night.He added: "Social media, such a dangerous thing. This has upset so many people. But, I'll see you on Friday back in the garden. Bye now."
"We would ask members of the public not to share them out of respect for his family, and to report them to the relevant social media platform to prevent further circulation. There has been a lot of speculation, and I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
Multiple roads were closed as a CID tent and multiple cordons were erected at the scene. Halloween revellers were locked in bars as the area was shut down. Some bars and nightclubs within the cordon were also ordered to close for the evening. "They said that the police had ordered them to shut the pub. They then let us all leave by the back door but we were able to have a look down the street.
