Liverpool will come alive with the vibrant spirit of Chinese New Year as it welcomes the Year of the Snake. The city will host a spectacular array of events, culminating in a grand celebration on February 2nd in Chinatown.

Liverpool will be ablaze with color and celebration as it welcomes the Chinese New Year. This year's festivities, reaching their peak on Sunday, February 2nd, will transform the city center, particularly Chinatown, into a vibrant spectacle of music, dance, and cultural traditions. Several iconic buildings, including Liverpool Town Hall and St George’s Hall, will be illuminated in the auspicious red hue, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.

Ming Wang, Secretary General of the Liverpool Chinese Business Association, expressed the spirit of the occasion, stating, 'As we bid farewell to the Year of the Dragon, we welcome the Year of the Snake – a time which signifies good fortune, prosperity, fertility and longevity. As always, our local Chinese community, Culture Liverpool, and other organizations have worked tirelessly together to arrange a series of arts and cultural events for everyone to enjoy. This is a festival of sound, fun, colour and confetti with a packed, diverse programme of free events for children and adults to enjoy. Please come and join the celebrations.'The main celebrations will unfold on Sunday, February 2nd, from 11am to 5pm, around Chinatown. The day promises a captivating program, including the vibrant Dragon and Lion parades, commencing at 11:15am and concluding around 3:30pm. The Unicorn parade, starting at 12:15pm, will wind its way through the city center, culminating around 4:00pm. Both parades will traverse Nelson Street, Duke Street, Berry Street, and Bold Street, immersing the city in a vibrant tapestry of Chinese cultural heritage. To accommodate the festivities, several Chinatown surrounding areas will be closed from 6am until 10pm, including Duke Street, Bold Street, and Berry Street. Access to businesses on Hanover Street will be restricted from Seel Street.Adding to the excitement, a special pre-celebration parade will take place on Saturday, January 25th, led by the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association, Pagoda Arts, and the acclaimed dance company Movema. This parade will feature members of the Chinese community and young people from In Harmony and the Shanghai Children’s Palace Orchestras, further enriching the city's cultural landscape. On Saturday, February 1st, Chinatown will host a selection of family-friendly activity workshops and craft stalls, offering a quieter alternative to Sunday's bustling festivities. This program ensures inclusivity by avoiding firecrackers and loud performances, allowing everyone to participate in the joyous ambiance.
