The Newcastle United winger has been linked with the Reds and is seemingly close with one member of the Liverpool squad
As Jude Bellingham paraded around Wembley with the European Cup on Saturday night, Liverpool fans could be forgiven for wondering what might have been.
Yet, by the point of his move in June 2023, Liverpool had long since withdrawn interest in their longstanding target. They had withdrawn from the race the previous April, resigned to the fact that they would fail to qualify for the Champions League so be priced out of a move for the then Borussia Dortmund star, but also required far more midfield surgery than one marquee arrival.
Yet for a while, before Liverpool publicly withdrew interest, Kopites dared to dream. And such speculation was partly fuelled by Bellingham’s international exploits. Boasting well-documented friendships with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson, tongue-in-cheek calls of ‘Agent Trent’ and ‘Agent Hendo’ were frequent as supporters convinced themselves the midfielder would end up being Anfield-bound.
While a former Everton player, the 23-year-old started his youth career with the Reds, is a boyhood Liverpool fan, and grew up idolising Steven Gerrard. Meanwhile, he recently hailed Anfield as boasting the best away atmosphere he has played in front of. Clearly the England international is not too fussed about burning his already-damaged Everton bridges!
