The bank is urging people to 'beware'
Lloyds Bank has issued a stark warning after a rise in reported football ticket scams last season. The banking giant said that, based on analysis of reported fraud cases among its own personal banking customers, the number of people being scammed when buying football tickets rose by more than a third. Victims lost £177 on average, though in some cases it was thousands of pounds.
Often they will include pictures of real tickets to convince the unsuspecting buyer they are genuine. The victim is then tricked into making a payment, usually by bank transfer . Many consumers are unaware bank transfers were not designed as a way of paying for things online and currently offer little protection if something goes wrong. Once the money has been transferred, the fraudster simply disappears, and the victim receives nothing in return.
