A customer contacted the group as they were concerned about a message they had received

Lloyds Bank has issued a warning to its customers about a four-digit code that it includes in its messages. An individual reached out to the bank after receiving a suspicious message claiming to be from Lloyds, which read: " Lloyds Bank has detected an attempted online transaction on your Debit Card at GymShark on 06/02/2025 at 11:66:55 for £108.55.

"For security reasons, this transaction was declined. If you recognize this transaction, please reply YES. If you do not, reply NO." The bank quickly identified the message as a "scam" and highlighted some telltale errors it is bogus in the way it was written. The bank said: "This will be a scam. You can see they've used the incorrect spelling of 'recognize' and also any message we send similar to this will have the last four digits of your debit card as well." They also noted that the text's generic nature makes it applicable to anyone, a common tactic used by scammers.

Criminals often send messages impersonating legitimate organisations to try and trick individuals into revealing personal or financial information, which can then be used to steal the person's money, or for identity theft. If you receive a dubious message appearing to be from your bank or another official entity, it's wise to directly contact the organisation to verify the authenticity of the communication.
