The New York Department of Transportation did a sweep of encampments beneath State Route 401 along Hudson Avenue and Carter Street , Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024.
Amy D'Amico, a local street outreach volunteer, says the New York Department of Transportation did a sweep of encampments beneath State Route 104 along Hudson Avenue and Carter Street Wednesday morning. She says the sweeps are making the situation worse for people without housing. D'Amico says the NYSDOT cleaned up and threw out the belongings of people living under the Hudson Avenue and Carter Street bridges.
According to D'Amico, there have been several cleanups across Rochester over the past couple of months. She says the NYSDOT does not make sure people living on the streets have a place to go before the sweeps.
