A 22-year-old died in hospital following a disturbance last night, with cops hunting two blade thugs.

Locals have told of their horror after a young man was stabbed to death following a fight in the street. The 22-year-old died in hospital after a disturbance on Moss East Lane, which runs as a border between Moss Side and Hulme in Manchester.

Residents say that, despite Moss Side's "reputation", it is normally quiet. They told how there is a mixture of locals and students who live in the area, and that they usually feel safe. A 60-year-old man, who has lived in Moss Side for his entire life, said the formerly rowdy area had become calmer in recent years. He said: "It's changed. It's gone quiet. It was wild. But you never know what's going on behind the scenes."

"I'm hoping this was just random. Because of Moss Side's reputation, this might be the area where people come to do bad things. But it's not necessarily Moss Side." Greater Manchester Police believe the attack was "not random" and have urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or that may have information, to come forward.
