Health and well-being charity, Royal Voluntary Service, is calling for more volunteers to join its team who bring coffee, comfort and cheer to the wards of University Hospital Hairmyres.

Volunteers deliver newspapers, snacks, essentials and much-needed pick-me-ups to patients on wards, stopping for a chat and a chuckle with those who might need a moment of companionship.Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7.

Volunteers are also needed in the hospital’s Royal Voluntary Service shop to join the friendly team offering refreshments to patients, visitors and hard-working hospital staff. Offering more than hot coffee and delicious snacks, volunteers are a friendly face, who are free to chat or to listen to those who might be experiencing a difficult or uncertain time.
