London pride: do you feel it? I do
Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan speaks after winning an historic third term in office, beating, among others, the Conservative candidate Susan Hall in the London mayoral election
His win, incidentally, has nothing to do with Keir Starmer. The Labour leader publicly claims he’s a “friend and colleague” of Khan’s – the same words he once used about Jeremy Corbyn. But Khan is his own man. And unlike Starmer, he has never wavered in his support for Palestinian civilians, who are being mercilessly punished for the crimes of Hamas.
Well, those times are gone. We were right about Brexit. Boris Johnson et al have been exposed as frauds and self-servers. Life elsewhere can be lovely and fulfilling, I’m sure. But the lure of London is irresistible, even though living here can be hard.. This city has pockets of poverty that are worse than in most other parts of the UK; knife crime has reached terrifying levels, mainly because the Tories have cynically cut the Mayor’s budget; some Londoners are rude, careless and fearfully angry; too many people here are physically or mentally sick and loneliness blights many lives.
