A fire that broke out in the Whetstone Mountains Tuesday night, about one mile west of Kartchner Caverns State Park in Cochise County, reached 120 acres Wednesday morning with 0% containment.
Nearly a full day after the Lonestar Fire started near Kartchner Caverns State Park, the wildfire has grown to an estimated 175 acres, still at 0% containment.
Due to a developing thunderstorm in the area, crews have come off the line and will re-assess the situation later in the evening. No evactuations are in place at this time, and the 175 acres are spread across only U.S. Forest Service land. Kartchner Caverns State Park has been identified as one of the areas at risk, according to Coronado National Forest, and visitors in the area are asked to use caution.
Firefighters arrived on the scene Tuesday night to assess. More crews and air support are on their way, the post said.
