OZARK- Longtime Dale County Coroner Woodrow Edward “Woody” Hilboldt Jr. died at home Wednesday following an extended illness.
The son of Woodrow Edward Hilboldt, Sr., and Martha Carroll Hilboldt was a lifelong resident of Broad Street in Ozark. He earned the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager, and played trumpet in the Carroll High School band. He graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1968. Olson said he realized the depth of Hilboldt’s compassion when the two traveled to notify the parents of a young woman who had just died in a vehicle accident of their daughter’s death.
After the fundraising pageant, the “womanless beauties” went to a bluegrass guitar pickin’ some friends were having. “They figured out who I was right away, but they never could identify Woody.A lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Ozark, Hilboldt served as a Westview Cemetery Board Member and as a Jaycee. He was President of Emma P. Flowers Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce.
