Lost Manchester attraction where some made 'wonderful memories' while others 'got knocked out'
Most of us will be able to recall certain attractions we loved going to when we were younger where safety was sometimes an issue.
Not just amateur skaters would use the rink, with professionals often taking to the ice. This included when the Manchester venue hosted the National Ice Skating Championships in 1911 and the World Championships in 1922. Patsi added: "When I was at Manchester Central Grammar in the early sixties my class used to go in the winter when the weather was bad."
Ivy said: "I went there with my best friend Barbara Ryan on Saturday mornings in the 40s, then in the early 50s with work friends. I 'borrowed' 5 pounds from my dad to buy my own skates from a sports shop on Market Street. I can't think of its name now, but it was on the right hand side going toward Piccadilly."
