Love Island: All Stars viewership has reportedly hit a new low, sparking calls for the show's cancellation. Despite featuring a star-studded cast, Sunday's episode attracted only 640,000 viewers, raising concerns about the show's future.
Calls for the cancellation of Love Island are intensifying as the show's viewership reportedly plummeted to a 'new low'. Super TV, a social media page renowned for providing 'latest TV news, iconic pop culture highlights and opinions', disclosed the concerning figures on Monday, January 20, regarding Love Island : All Stars .
Sunday's episode emerged as the least-watched since the inaugural series, attracting only 640,000 viewers, this despite lacking competition from the popular show 'The Traitors'. Super TV's caption read: 'RATINGS! #LoveIsland has already fallen to new lows with last night being the least watched episode of the show since series 1, with just 640k viewers and that’s without competition from The Traitors #LoveIslandAllStars.' The post garnered a significant online response, amassing 510,000 views, 3,800 likes, and 285 retweets.A multitude of users expressed their dissatisfaction with the ITV2 show. One commented: 'They need to bin this, that’s lower than a YouTube video.' Another voiced their blunt opinion: 'Let’s be honest it needs (to be) axed at this point.' A third stated their disinterest: 'I stopped watching after Ekin Su’s season' prompting a reply: 'Millions did! That was the last time it had any substantial viewership.' One viewer questioned the strategic timing, suggesting: 'People are focused on starting the new year and often feel the January blues. Last thing you want to be watching is folk living it up in a villa while you're stuck in 24 hours night. Keep it to summer, everyone's happier.'Although the 'low' ratings have shocked many, viewership may rebound as consolidated data for each episode isn't released until seven days after airing. On Monday night, ITVX announced it had its best day since the Euros final in July 2024, as Love Island: All Stars garnered 3 million streams. Love Island: All Stars, which reunites former contestants for another shot at love, premiered on January 15. Hosted by Maya Jama and narrated by Iain Stirling, it airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV and ITVX. The star-studded cast includes Grace Jackson, Ron Hall, Tina Stinnes, Casey O’Gorman, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Luca Bish, India Reynolds, Marcel Somerville, Elma Pazar, Catherine Agbaje, Olivia Hawkins, Ronnie Vint, Scott Thomas, Gabby Allen, Curtis Pritchard, Kaz Crossley, and Nas Majeed. Among the most recognizable faces is Ekin Su, who won season 8 of Love Island with 'Italian stallion' Davide Saclimenti in 2022. Their chemistry was undeniable, and they even launched a series, 'Ekin-Su and Davide: Homecomings,' where they visited their home countries of Turkey and Italy. However, the couple announced their split on Instagram in January 2024. Another familiar face is Luca Bish, who also appeared on season 8 of Love Island and reached the final with Gemma Owen, finishing as runners-up to Ekin-Su and Davide.
