The former nurse denies one count of attempted murder
A series of messages Lucy Letby is said to have sent to colleagues after allegedly attacking a premature baby were read out in court.
The court heard, by the time she allegedly targeted Child K, the then nurse had already murdered five children and attempted to murder three others on various dates between June 2015 and October 2015. She was also convicted last year of the attempted murders of twin boys in April 2016; an attempt to murder another boy in June 2016; and the murders of two triplet boys later that month.
The nurse colleague replied "oh sorry lol" and in another message said: "25-weeker gone out now? x" Letby was said to have replied: "Yeah but not until 2ish and very unstable." She confirmed she and other consultants would "oversee" the care of premature babies, and that included Child K. Questioned by junior prosecutor Simon Driver, Dr Brigham confirmed an entry taken by a midwife contains a brief history of Child K's mother.
The original plan to transfer was postponed because it was feared she may deliver in the ambulance, said Dr Brigham. When she returned to work the following day, on February 16, the doctor confirmed she completed her morning rounds, and saw Child K's mother at 9.20am. She confirmed she read the patient's notes.
The baby was delivered at 2.12am. Questioned by Ben Myers KC, for Letby, Dr Brigham agreed it would have been risky to send the patient to a specialist hospital in Preston.
