Ysanne Churchman has died age 99 The Archers star Ysanne Churchman has sadly passed away aged 99. Ysanne’s career spanned 50 years across radio, television and film, though she is perhaps best known for playing Grace Archer in BBC Radio 4 drama The Archers. Grace was one of The Archers’ original characters, and a whopping 20 million people tuned into the episode of her death in 1955, which aired on the same day ITV was launched.
Ysanne played Grace Archer in The Archers However, she explained that this was actually a blessing in disguise, as the launch of ITV meant that there were plenty of jobs for voice artists to do adverts. ‘I was able to make a good living from voiceovers for years,’ she revealed. Speaking about her death, editor of The Archers, Jeremy Howe, said: ‘Ysanne was a wonderful actress and off air she campaigned tirelessly for equal pay for women in the industry.
