A new survey reveals that 73% of British people support a bank holiday to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2025, despite the government's announcement that there will not be an extra bank holiday.
The vast majority of British people would support a bank holiday to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2025. A new survey reveals that 73 percent of respondents back the idea of a special day to commemorate the end of global hostilities and peace. However, the government has stated that there will not be an extra bank holiday next year. The survey also found that most Brits believe younger generations do not know enough about the sacrifices made during the war.
VE Day, Victory in Europe Day, is celebrated annually on 8 May to mark the end of World War II. In 2020, the early May bank holiday was moved to 8 May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE Day. While the government has committed to commemorating the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day with over £10 million for events, they have confirmed that there will not be an extra bank holiday in 2025
