A Texas man is accused in the death of his 3-year-old son, Grand Prairie police say. The boy died at an Arlington hospital earlier this month.

Solnifasint Nelson, 21, was initially arrested on a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury or death, police said.

He now faces a murder charge, according to Tarrant County court records. He remained jailed Saturday morning with bail set at $250,000, jail records show.It is unclear if Nelson has an attorney. He is accused of throwing the 3-year-old boy to the ground or striking him against a hard surface, according to a complaint filed Friday.

At about 8:30 a.m. May 11, officers responded to a hospital in Arlington, police said. Hospital staff had contacted Grand Prairie police after family members took the child to the emergency room. Investigators found that the child had been assaulted at his home in the 1000 block of North Highway 360, near Interstate 30, before he was taken to the hospital.Police said officers arrested Nelson at about 4:30 p.m. that day. The boy was flown to a hospital in Fort Worth due to the severity of his injuries, police said, and he died there May 15.Aria Jones
