Police Scotland have apprehended a 35-year-old man following reports of an individual armed with a weapon on the M8 motorway near Chapelhall, Glasgow . Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident on the slip road at Junction 6 around 8:55 am on Monday morning. Prior to their arrival, the man had exited the scene on foot. A thorough search of the area subsequently led to the discovery of a firearm, which was recovered by officers.
The targeted incident prompted a significant disruption to traffic flow, with the M8 slip road and a portion of the A8 eastbound at Eurocentral closed for approximately seven hours while investigations were conducted. The road has since fully reopened. Detective Inspector Stephanie Bertram of Lanarkshire CID emphasized the targeted nature of the incident and urged drivers who may have dash-cam footage to come forward. She also appealed for any witnesses or individuals with information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident to contact the authorities. Chief Inspector Gail Nicol, the local area commander, sought to reassure the community by encouraging anyone with concerns to engage with police officials.
