Police in Newry are investigating an aggravated burglary that left a man hospitalized after being assaulted by two intruders. The attack occurred on Friday night in the Edencrieve area.
Police in Newry are urging the public for any information or witness accounts following a violent aggravated burglary that left a man hospitalized. The incident occurred on Friday, February 7th, around 9:10 pm, when officers responded to reports of an assault inside a house in the Edencrieve area. Upon arrival, they discovered a man in his 40s suffering from injuries to his upper body and a severe laceration to his foot.
According to reports, the victim was confronted in his bedroom by two unidentified men who entered the property. The suspects subsequently attacked him with a long, blunt object before fleeing downstairs and out the back of the house on foot. They are described as being in their early 20s, of slim build, and wearing dark clothing with snoods. The injured man received immediate medical attention at the scene and was subsequently transported to the hospital by paramedics from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.Newry City Councillor Aidan Mathers expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that it had instilled fear and anxiety within the local community. He offered his best wishes for the man's full recovery and urged anyone who had witnessed any suspicious activity in the area recently to come forward with information to the police. Councillor Mathers emphasized that these criminals were driven by greed and showed no regard for the harm they inflicted. PSNI officers are actively investigating the case and are appealing to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in any CCTV, dash-cam, or other footage from the vicinity.
