Ledgerton was angered by an interview Mr Shilton had given the previous day in which he criticised fans of Liverpool FC for chants about King Charles' coronation

A man who said he'd break the neck of Nottingham Forest legend Peter Shilton has been banned from contacting him and his wife. Stephanie Shilton welcomed Adam Ledgerton's conviction, saying it "sends a message".

The voicemail said: "Hi Steph, if you work for Peter, can you just let him know that he is a fat Tory, a little f****** c***. 'If I see him I will break his f***** neck and his fat Tory royal shagging c***". Mrs Shilton told the ECHO today: "Obviously it was great they investigated and Essex and Merseyside Police took it so seriously. It sends a message, it's about saying it's not acceptable for people to use this type of threatening language.

Mr Shilton tweeted about the case today, writing: "I’d like to thank Merseyside Police and Essex Police for the fantastic support they gave us when Steph received a threat, this resulted in a prosecution at Liverpool Magistrates this morning."
