Daniel Holden was sentenced to prison for grievous bodily harm after attacking his wife with a pickaxe.

A 56-year-old man, Daniel Holden from Station Road, Keswick, was jailed on Monday, January 6, at Carlisle Crown Court for section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. Holden pleaded guilty to the offense at an earlier hearing in November. On July 5, 2024, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) contacted Cumbria Police after Holden called to report that he had hit his partner over the head with a pickaxe.

In the call, Holden stated he had 'attacked his wife' and that she was 'badly injured' and 'heavily bleeding'. Upon officers' arrival, Holden confirmed he had hit his partner three times to the head, and the weapon was located in the bedroom. Holden was arrested and continued to make comments about hitting his partner three times and his intent. The victim was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with a bleed on the brain. Detective Inspector Suzanne Redikin, the senior investigating officer, stated that Holden knew the axe would cause potentially fatal damage to the victim when he hit her three times. She emphasized that the use of any weapon has the potential to end in tragedy, and the police and courts take such acts extremely seriously
