Dane Freeman was captured on CCTV throwing missiles at police officers
A man was captured on film throwing bottles at the police during disorder outside a hotel believed to be housing asylum seekers.
Dane Freeman, 25, of Timson Street, Failsworth, Oldham, pleaded guilty to violent disorder following an incident outside the hotel on Oldham Road, Newton Heath, on July 31. Prosecuting, Suzanne Ludlow said that between 50 to 70 people attended the hotel, and during that time the crowd became aggressive, namely by throwing bottles and making ‘racist chants’.“This defendant was identified from the footage and seen to throw bottles towards the police and smash up bricks and throw other items at the police who were trying to stop the disorder,” Ms Ludlow added.
The court heard he had one previous conviction for drug driving. No application for bail was made on his behalf. Remanding him into custody, District Judge Lucy Hogarth said: “Bearing in mind all the circumstances, if you were granted bail there are substantial grounds to believe there is a risk of further offences.”
