The man required hospital treatment after the assault on a busy road.
The 33-year-old was assaulted at a bus stop on Western Road between the junctions with Ardgour Road and Knockinlaw Road at around 7.30pm.Detectives are investigating the attack and police say they are working to establish the full circumstances.
Detective constable Gillian Wilson, of Kilmarnock Police Station, said: “We are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen a man on a blue and black bike in the area to come forward. “The area was also busy with traffic on Sunday evening so I would urge anyone who may have seen anything while passing or who may have dashcam footage to get in touch.
“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 3330 of October 3, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
