'I was punched, pushed and verbally abused'
A Northern Ireland man has spoken of the constant attacks, both physical and verbal, he and his colleagues were subject to while working as Glider CRPOs.
Speaking to Belfast Live, after an exclusive report on the number of attacks on Glider staff since its introduction four years ago, the man who we are calling Tom, said the figures are not reflective of what happened daily because not each attack would be reported."When I started the job I was excited, it was a new service and it sounded brilliant," he said.
"Not every assault has been reported, for that reason. There were days where I would be unsure what a shift would bring.""The vehicles are attacked on a regular basis," he added. "There were brilliant days, there really were. And I met some great people through the job, and became close to passengers. At some times other passengers would have stepped in and tried to help us.
A Translink spokesperson told Belfast Live that the safety of their customers, staff and the wider public "is our top priority at all times" "All our staff are trained and instructed to report serious incidents. One reason for this is to allow us to investigate fully, capture all footage and evidence available, and work with PSNI and justice agencies to ensure that each incident is followed up robustly. There have been a number of successful prosecutions, with other cases pending.
